This Blog was written By Gene who has been volunteering at the Edmonds Food Bank for almost two years. The Blog will have guest writers once in a while, and I figured we would start off the first actual blog with Genes program of Adopting a Family for the upcoming holidays.
Hello Everyone,
First of all, I would like to say "THANK YOU" I have volunteered at several food banks and food pantries throughout the years and by far this is the most efficiently managed food bank that I know of!!!!! This is because of the exceptional group of volunteers and staff that are dedicated to helping address the food insecurity within the community. I believe most of you are aware of my diagnosis of Early-onset Alzheimer's disease. I was diagnosed in 2018. I am undergoing extensive neurological testing as the one administered prior to my diagnosis. I am experiencing cognitive delays and gaps in memory. So please don't be hesitant about approaching me and letting me know I did something wrong or need to do it differently.
So lately I have been constantly reminded by family and friends that I need to do things differently than what I'm used to normally doing. Here's a couple of examples of how things are different for me now!! The letter that is included below attachment this letter took me over 6 hours for a little over paragraph to write. Then Casey still had to edit it. This email took me 3 hours. I need your help!!! Our goal is to raise $100,000 before the end of the year. This is a very achievable goal however, we will need everyone's participation in order to make this goal a reality.
The Family $ Friends ASK is a very important component of this promotion. We are asking that you try and each get 2 other people to participate in the program. This promotion covers the Fall and Winter times when the demand is high. We have 175 dedicated volunteers you all know a lot of people. This is a great start towards our goal. Yesterday I went through my personal email and phone contacts and I had 10 friends say they would donate to the program. And will get a person that is considering possibly being a volunteer. How cool is that?
I will be doing personal engagements to all the churches in Edmonds. If any of you are members of a particular congregation please let me know and either we can do it together or you can do it by yourself. The same for if you have any businesses, schools, civic clubs, banks, and grocery stores contacts let me know. We also plan on doing a media campaign so we really need someone who knows the food bank to manage this important piece of the puzzle.
